Written for The Bridge magazine March 2011The term Soul Midwifery
describes the ancient art of being with the dying. The very
utterance of the words brings a deep soul resonance, igniting the flame of remembrance
of something vast, and sacred that unites us as a race, through time, space and
circumstance, with the common thread of tending our loved ones who are
dying. The ways in which we once tended
our dying has changed dramatically, with many generations, and their traditions
coming and going, each bequeathing their hallowed gifts upon the altar of Soul
Midwifery. Yet deep within our genetic memory, we have the inherent wisdom,
born of our celestial seeding, to remember the magnificence of the Human being,
those hallowed gifts, merely steeped in forgetfulness, can be stirred from
their slumber, into active participation.
A Soul Midwife is not a
role, or an identity, a Soul Midwife cannot be taught in the traditional sense,
manufactured, or mass produced........a Soul Midwife is born....... she or he is born
upon the acceptance of the Invitation extended from the dying, an Invitation to
travel, to experience, to go beyond the parameters of belief and
disbelief. To swim and ride the swell of
the pranic tides of consciousness, washing over the shores of our Immortal
Memory gathering the pearls of wisdom from our bejewelled Soul Lineage. Every man, woman and child, who has
experienced someone in their dying, is and can be the Soul Midwife. It is a Soul to Soul communion, and as one
immerses oneself in this deep communion, can the Presence be felt. Life can never
be the same. A Soul Midwife is then a state of being.
To Soul Midwive is to hold the space, a very sacred space of renewal,
regeneration, and fearlessness-on all levels.
There is a “holding of space”, as a vibratory harmonic that reverberates
throughout our genetic libraries, symbiotically de-mystifying the knowledge
written in the language of Light within our cellular memory. Knowledge to be
birthed into this paradigm, into this time and space called “Now”. Even as you read these words, the Light
threads within them are casting their nets into the waters of your own
fragmented memories, bringing to your awareness your own unique decoding. Not just because of what is being said, but
because of what can be “felt”. Such is the
“space” that opens to you, within you.
In Service we focus upon “being with” and not “doing to” the dying. For those who are dying, their time is often
spent with having things done to them. In
Service we meet those in their pain and suffering, we meet them on many
levels. When we too have had pain and
suffering, have we not felt the wonders of someone who has “met us” in that
circumstance? There is no end to that
place deep inside, we are indeed in Service to what Life is seeking to awaken
inside of us, and inside those whose lives we touch. In Service then we
meet, and so you shall be met…………..
My life has been graced by the many men, women and children, who have
extended the Invitation to me. To travel
with them, to bear witness to their journey through their unique processes of
dying. From sitting in vigil, to tending
their bodies, from holding them in my arms, to speaking their committal. Each and every soul has gifted me beyond
measure, and taught me about Life. But
the most intimate and transformative moment of all, was when my own mothers
eyes met mine for the last time. Her eyes would look into my very soul and my
eyes would meet her there.........my smile was the last smile she saw, my face
was the last face she would reach to kiss.
The gaze upon which we held, stretched across chasms of time and star
studded space, beyond our earthly perceptions, and then......there she was in
all her splendour, there I was in all my splendour, there we were as radiant
light expansive, free flowing, and in bliss. I travelled and journeyed upon our
Love. From the edges of infinity I called forth Remembrance, it came. It flooded into my awareness, rising up from
my body and was birthed into my life, taking the form of a timeless body of
work revealing the workings of Soul and the silence that midwives our
Consciousness. Indeed my life was never
to be the same.
As time passed, this body
of work was grounded in participation.
Today it remains “timeless” as it evolves through whoever partakes of
it, and who ever I am called to be with through their dying. As each person
unfolds, and adds to the birthing of a new paradigm, each person is a pioneer,
and is honoured as such.
My life is dedicated to
bringing to those who are dying and their families, a simple yet profound
toolbox of practical and energetic techniques, which are gentle, effective,
empowering, and accessible. I also offer
personal and inspiring Funeral Celebrancy.
